A Better Resurrection Sylvia Plath

DSC_0465

I have no wit, I accept no words, no tears;
My centre within me similar a stone
Is numbed too much for hopes or fears;
Look right, wait left, I dwell solitary;
A lift mine eyes, but dimmed with grief
No everlasting hills I meet;
My life is like the falling leaf;
O Jesus, quicken me.

This poem by Plath is simply heart wrenching. To think that a talented and revered poet believed herself to accept no wit! This poem greatly describes the mentality of someone depressed or one depressing moment. I believe that everyone has felt this way in their life, just not in a chronic fashion. The whole poem is actually i sentence, which contributes to the notion that these are thoughts going through one's head. It contributes to a "stream of consciousness" style. There are a few instances of anaphora in this poem such as, "I have no wit, I have no words", and also "Look correct, wait left". Plath also compares herself to a stone and a falling leaf. She is comparing herself to objects that exist in nature, and so she is nigh challenge that mental disease is natural and that these feeling can occur in anyone. The metaphor of herself equally a falling leaf is very deep and thought provoking. The leaf is disconnected from its life source and what'south left of its life takes place from the moment the leaf started to fall, until it hits the footing. You lot could interpret this in many different ways, butevery single human being on this planet is just like that falling leaf. We have disconnected from our first life source (when nosotros were in the womb), and nosotros are all technically dying (each day nosotros abound older, we are closer to when nosotros will die), and then we hit the ground (we dice). That sounds very depressing, I know, but this is only the way of life. This poem also contains a hopeless tone, which tin can be felt by  the reader.

Information technology'southward really pitiful that nosotros could spend any of the little time we have on this world feeling sad, depressed and lone.  I always endeavour and remind myself that I cannot and volition never 100% understand what someone feels, thinks or their perspective, even if I try my hardest; it's just incommunicable. So the just thing you tin do is attempt and be understanding and endeavor to be sympathetic toward others and to think near how yous would want to be treated in that situation. Then exist kind and exist open minded. Cheers!
